Why is this so important? Because the other 9800's you see for sale on eBay are flashed using a hacked ROM that's shortened to fit on a smaller 64K ROM chip (what are normally found on PC cards). Since the original ATI firmware is 128K, all present & future ROM updaters from ATI will FAIL to update those cards. It's best to avoid such cards as you will not be able to update them if any incompatibilities arise in future OS updates. The easiest way to spot such a card is to power-on your Mac without a power connector attached to the card; you will see a picture of the 9800 with arrows pointing to its power connector. Cards with 64K ROMs will only display a dark screen. ROM updates (all 128K in size) have been released in the past to fix other bugs like sleep issues, DVI monitor artifacts, DVD playback, etc. All modern plug-in PCI/AGP cards & motherboards feature flashROM for a reason--to avoid obsolescence.
